The Water Resources Directorate in Homs, in cooperation with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), continues to carry out rehabilitation works on vital irrigation infrastructure, by renovating the Hassana and Shabrounia canals branching from the Great Southern River in the Talkalakh area, which contributes to improving irrigation conditions and serving around 700 hectares of farmland, benefiting nearly 15,000 people.
The work includes treating damaged and erosion-prone sites, rehabilitating the facilities and water structures associated with the two canals, improving intakes and water distribution control systems, along with reinforcing and rehabilitating damaged sections and addressing intersections with agricultural roads, enhancing the strength of the canals and their efficiency in water transport.
These works are directly important to farmers in the area as they help reduce irrigation water losses, improve its delivery to the beneficiary lands, and secure water needs for crops and vegetables, supporting agricultural stability and preserving water resources. The General Authority for Water Resources extends thanks to the FAO and the technical and operational staff for their efforts and cooperation in carrying out these tasks helps strengthen the partnership in rehabilitating irrigation projects and improving the services offered to farmers.
